Discover regional and Texas history at the DeWalt Heritage Center! Located at Kitty Hollow Park in Missouri City, the DeWalt Heritage Center is housed inside the turn-of-the-century Dew family home.The Dew family played a prominent role in Fort Bend County and the Houston area. Their business ventures included a cattle ranch, cotton gin, syrup mill and general store, which also housed the De Walt post office. Their 5,000 local acres produced cash crops of cotton, sugar cane and corn - and, by the 1920s, oil. The family played a prominent role in helping to support a number of organizations, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Fort Bend County Fair, American Cancer Society and more.
In 2006, community support rescued the home from demolition and oversaw its move three miles down Highway 6 to its current location in Kitty Hollow Park.
