With Ben Wrigley - paper and performance/happening, with Kelly Hartland & Tech by Neil McGrath:"An attempt to set a trajectory for my mind with a meaning and a purpose, to draw a sense of contentment from this experience of being incarnate human.
A set of meanderings, as I look for evidence. Evidence to align my experiences with others in this material quagmire, and making art, as unguided expression of divinity and provocation.
How to find peace and pleasure, fun and joy? Oh, and spiritual growth.
Anyway, in this presentation are some actions (Performance) and words that have been assembled on a page by my fingers on a computer keyboard. They came about after a recent sculpture exhibition and pilgrimage I created here in Bendigo, called 'The Wands - a Pilgrimage'.
This path has collateral for me and I hope you can find some inspiration in the random concepts I bandy about, based on my theory and praxis.
If nothing, it will sound convincing!"
...
Ben Wrigley, a professional Architectural photographer for survival, prefers to sculpt, reductively, in wood and stone, then constructively in wax and clay, or maluably in blacksmithery.
The next 'standard' issue Australia Post stamp @$1.70 will have one of his images - Siding Springs Optical Telescope.
So Wrigley is not without achievement or recognition. Given he failed at high school and was thrown out of art school! and could achieve a certificate at masters level in an alternative college that had no formal marking system. My type of tribe.
He has met Desmond Tutu, had lunch with the crown prince of Japan, now the emperor, met several Australian prime ministers in passing, was invited to high tea with Dame Elizabeth Murdoch and a coterie of her family. These are the places one can adventure as a photographer. He's sure there are more but really he needs to forget these people, as they are not the important hearts and minds as they only love power and money and will bend the truth to suit their intentions, with the exception of Desmon Tutu of course, he and Luitia O'Donahue & Pat Dodson are all heart and welcoming, inclusivity and love.
Now a committed resident of Bendigo, having been jettisoned from the madness of Melbourne city.
All Welcome!
Gold coin donation appreciated. After the talk we will trip down the hill to the Queen's Arms for dinner and drinks, as usual.
