Learn to mend your clothing using embroidery techniques!
About this Event

Learn to mend your clothing and other textiles using embroidery techniques!

This small hands-on class will be focused on repairing holes, reinforcing fabric, and re-making button holes or areas of loose stitching. You will learn how to repair a garment of your own (or practice on scrap fabric) using a variety of visible mending and embroidery techniques.

You will leave knowing how to repair your personal items and you'll get a little kit of take-home supplies for your personal mending projects!

We recommend bringing items with a looser weave and minimal stretch. A list of garment / textile types is below.

This course welcomes brand-new embroiders and those with experience.

Items / Fabrics that will work well for mending: loosely woven fabrics with little stretch (like linen or cotton), sweatshirt material, lighter weight denim & twill

More Challenging Fabrics: heavier duty canvas / denim / twill, mesh / tulle, medium-weight fleece - these are possible to mend, just a little harder!

Not recommended: thin & stretchy fabrics like t-shirts, tightly woven fabrics like silk, matted fleece, leather.

Repair supplies are provided. Class is capped at 12 participants.

Items to bring, if you have them:

  • Item(s) to mend
  • Reading Glasses, if you use them!
  • Embroidery hoop (can be provided)
  • Embroidery needles (can be provided)
  • Scissors (will be provided, to share)

Note on Sliding Scale Pricing:

Repair PDX seeks to both pay equitably and keep ticket prices accessible.

Not every event we run is independently solvent. We provide sliding scale, free tickets for volunteers, and other low cost opportunities because of our values. Thus, we rely on those with more financial support to pay the higher end of the sliding scale in order to offset the low-cost tickets. Thus, you will see a variety of ticket prices for the same event and we encourage you to pay what you can.

Proceeds from tickets go directly to paying our wonderful instructors, providing materials for the class, and continuing to host events and workshops like this one!

*If you are a volunteer wanting to join the class when there are no free tickets left, please email [email protected] so we can open one up for you.
