What = a food swap!
Bring your home grown, homemade, home canned and/or foraged goodies to swap with other Durhamites. It's always a good time, good food, and good friends. You'll leave with a full belly, full heart, and full bag of things to enjoy at home. Children are welcome, but **must be supervised at all times**.
In case you have never been to one, or it has been a long time and you forgot, here's the deal. You grow, raise, forage, smoke, ferment, cook, bake, and/or can some things. You bring those things to the swap. Then you barter with other people for their things. There is no money exchanged, no store bought items, and everyone must sign a waiver that you understand these things were made in a home kitchen by common folks and accept any risks that implies. That's all there is to it!
Some things we have seen at past swaps, for ideas, include but are not limited to: eggs, herbs, mushrooms, nuts, produce, pickles, sauerkraut / kimchi, jelly and jam and preserves, pies, cookies, bagels, bread, cakes, crackers, compound butters, granola, bacon, pastrami, tongue, hand roasted coffee, hot sauces, vanilla extract, pesto, and kombucha / shrubs. But it is limited only to your imagination and culinary abilities.
