VIDEO - WHY FIRE NOW

THE INVITATION - Fire embodies the spirit of heart transcending all that divides us. Community fires provide a space to connect with oneself, each other, nature and the world around us; a safe place to open, feel, discover and express our vulnerability and authenticity, a place to experience the spiritual presence of Fire, externally and within.

Throughout time, this method of connection – which we call Fire Work – has helped societies form wise and balanced cultures and traditions. As today’s world grows increasingly complex, the advantages of this humans-and-Fire relationship have largely been forgotten. Sacred Fire offers all people the opportunity to experience Fire’s benefits.

Engaging the sacred fire in the presence of others is one of humanity’s oldest traditions, where people from all walks of life, religions, and traditions are welcome. Community fires are hosted by Firekeepers, Lisa Lichtig or Patrick Hanaway who are trained, initiated and receive continuing education in the time-honored principles of "Fire Work" —a method of connection that is skilled in holding space and in working with Fire’s powers of illumination and transformation to facilitate both personal and community growth and healing.

Together with the spontaneity, inspiration, and life challenges brought by those in attendance, community fires offer an opportunity for personal and group transformation.

Sacred Fire offers a safe place where

  • we can be vulnerable with our doubts, our fears.
  • our load of concern, grief or anger is relieved.
  • our numbness can transform into a sense of well-being.
  • joy and connection emerge.
  • you can be you.

As human beings, we have gathered around fire for millennia for its light and warmth, to cook our food, to share our lives, tell our stories, and connect. Fire holds a spiritual quality that can open heart and forge courageous, compassionate connection to self, others and nature. When properly facilitated, Fire unlocks the door to personal healing and life improvement.

Come with your concerns or questions, your play, your songs, your stories, your gifts, your laughter, your tears, your presence and your silence. Each community fire has a different flavor or spirit that is created by the ingredients of the world around us, nature, and the people who participate that evening.

CHILDREN
Children (< 15 yrs) are welcome to join us for the potluck and the initial part of the fire. Once the fire is consecrated, we ask parents to bring their children home or enjoy time at the firekeeper's house (under the guidance of an adult). Note - nursing babies w/their mamas are welcome throughout the fire. Children can benefit from Sacred Fire without being there by being around adults who become more emotionally fluid, present and connected with the help of the medicine of fire and community.
