October Climate Cafe

Space is limited to 15 participants per cafe. We are asking for a $5 donation to help cover the costs of beverages and snacks, but please don't hesitate to reach out if this cost creates a barrier for you.

The event location, which is in the Millhopper area of northwest Gainesville, will be disclosed via email to those who register, and to those who reach out about joining the new volunteer interest meeting.

A climate cafe is a community-organized space with open, nonjudgmental conversations about climate change and how it makes us feel. All emotions are valid, and experienced facilitators guide conversations to promote connection and insight.

Climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse are some of the most pressing issues that humanity faces today. In response, we are witnessing a rise in anxiety, fear, and overwhelm globally. It can be difficult to interpret headlines that are sometimes dire, and other times hopeful. Many people vacillate between feeling doomed by climate change and being emotionally checked out.

Climatec cafes provide space to navigate these emotions in solidarity with the global community already experiencing some of the devastating impacts of climate change. They help to break up the isolation and silence that most of us struggle with around climate change by offering an opportunity to share openly and honestly and to reflect on how we can best tend to these feelings.
