Featured Speaker:

Helen R. Ladson is a cultural preservationist, educator, community advocate, organizer, playwright, artist, tour guide, and mother who has resided in the city of Brunswick, Georgia for 34 years. Her highest values are expressed through the creation and development of community empowerment initiatives for the youth and adults in her community to encourage engagement and ecological stewardship. Clean energy aligns with both her personal and professional life through the written and secured grants for nonprofit organizations in Glynn County that have a focus on economic development and ecological stewardship in the Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor. As a tour guide and docent, she has introduced visitors of the Golden Isles to the rich history of her beloved city. As a community engagement coordinator, Helen has introduced nearly 300 potential volunteers to opportunities within the Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor.

A former mayoral candidate in the 2021 municipal election in the City of Brunswick, she has served her community for more than a decade as an advocate and organizer. Community minded, she is a member of the Brunswick African American Cultural Center’s Board of Directors. As Founding Executive Director of Heritage Works, Inc., she is currently committed to preserving and archiving oral history on the Georgia coast and throughout the State of Georgia.

We are excited to feature Chef Yasmyne, a U.S. Navy Veteran, culinary student, and multifaceted entrepreneur blending flavor, healing, and hustle. As the founder of Yasmyne’s Kitchen, LLC and Yasmyne’s Garden, she brings farm-to-table cooking, herbal remedies, and creative expression together in every product she creates.

From the soil to the stove, Chef Yasmyne’s work is rooted in passion, purpose, and community.
