About this Event

In this Ockham Lecture, Justine Olsen, Curator Decorative Art and Design at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, will demystify the connections around research, collecting and exhibitions, particularly relating to modern design.

Justine will discuss the way exhibitions and acquisitions at Te Papa have informed a large research topic on modern design in New Zealand. The exhibitions Modern Living (2020-21) and Being Modern: Gallery of Helen Hitchings (2016-17) are part of this work.

Justine Olsen has been Curator of Decorative Art and Design at Te Papa Tongarewa since 2007. Her portfolio includes international and historic collections; her special areas of interest include contemporary design and New Zealand modernism 1930s to the 1960s.

The Ockham Lecture series is an annual programme of lectures and panel discussions across different themes that critically engage with craft, design and architecture. This programme is supported by Objectspace's Lead Partner Ockham Residential.
