About this Event
Join OC Habitats and Project Grow at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve as we work to restore the vital salt marsh ecosystem through invasive plant removal and trash cleanup. This area plays a crucial role in supporting both resident and migratory species, providing essential food and shelter year-round. Due to ongoing human impacts, these habitats are in constant need of restoration, and we are excited to contribute to their preservation. No prior experience is required; we'll provide all the necessary training and equipment. As we work, we'll also share valuable insights about the species and habitats that depend on this critical environment. Attendees must be 18+ old to be able to participate.
Waiver: Everyone must sign both and to participate in this restoration.
Bring/Wear:
- Water and snacks
- Jacket/sweater
- Closed-toe shoes or boots that you don't mind getting muddy & wet (preferably water-resistant)
- Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, reef-friendly sunscreen)
On the day of the restoration, volunteers should arrive by 8:15am. This will allow us walk to the site and start by 8:30am.
Park & Meet: Free parking is available at the Upper Newport Bay Natural Preserve lot and curbside along University Drive. Meet our team near the cul-de-sac at the end of University Drive. Be sure that your navigation takes you to the Upper Newport Bay Natural Preserve, NOT the Back Bay Science Center.
