**Obscure Los Angeles Presents: Public Access Christmas**A screening of rare, holiday themed cable access television nuggets.
In 1969 the FCC enacted legislation requiring cable television operators to provide free production services and channel space to the community- a true non-commercial platform for the people. The result was Public Access Television, the locally driven, often bizarre, and charmingly amateurish homemade TV programs occupying space at the far end of the dial. In the age of YouTube many of these rogue television pioneers have become legendary. Now it’s time to celebrate the holidays with them.
Join Obscure Los Angeles for a special screening of rare public access holiday classics. Curator Adam Papagan has reached deep into his personal collection of community television clips to curate a program of oddball yuletide videos you won’t see anywhere else. Adam is an outspoken supporter of community television and has been collecting clips and producing his own shows since he was a teenager. Look forward to off-key Christmas carols, unusual decorating ideas, musical whistling, and even a public access Santa Claus, all presented in their lo-fi analog glory. Current and past public access producers will also be in attendance (schedules permitting). The only way to tune in is in person. No cable subscription required.
