Whether it’s a worn-out shoe or a rusted key, Sebastian will guide you through the process of reimagining everyday objects and transforming them into art to convey a narrative.
This creative exercise challenges participants to deepen their connection with materials, turning simple items into powerful visual stories. The resulting sculptures invite viewers to explore and interpret the embedded narratives, bridging the gap between the mundane and the profound. Juan Sebastian Restrepo is a Florida-based artist specializing in painting and drawing, with an MFA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a BFA from Pratt Institute. His work explores how memory and storytelling shape our understanding of people and situations. Notable exhibitions include “Intersections” (New World Gallery, 2023), “Hybridity” (Edwardsville Arts Center, 2018), and “Empty Walls” (Coral Springs Museum of Art, 2024). Restrepo has two upcoming solo exhibitions: “Sebastian Restrepo: multitasking”that is on view October 12-December 14, 2024 at [NAME] in Miami and “No Further Expectations Beyond this Night,” November 19-December 1, 2024 at the Community Gallery at The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood.His work has also been featured in journals such as Quibble Lit and Red Cedar Review. Additionally, he serves as a Faculty Adjunct at Florida International University and Miami Dade College Kendall Campus.
