About this Event
Take a journey to California’s deserts with artist Obi Kaufmann as he shares The Deserts of California, the final volume in his California Lands Trilogy series. The series began with The California Field Atlas, and continued with The Forests of California and The Coasts of California. All of Obi Kaufmann’s books are a love story to California.
Through breathtaking watercolor, illustrations of the desert wildlife, and maps of these underappreciated places, The Deserts of California takes readers on an incredible adventure to the Great Basin, Mojave, Colorado and Sonoran Deserts. The event at Mission Trails will include a discussion about California’s fragile desert ecosystem and a book signing with Obi Kaufmann.
The Deserts of California and other books from the series will be available for purchase at the event in the MTRP Gift Shop. To reserve copies of the book titles available, please email [email protected].
About Obi Kaufmann:
Obi Kaufmann has dedicated his life to studying California's natural world. In his first, genre-breaking work, The California Field Atlas, Obi depicts California as a networked system of living forces comprising a super-entity, that although wounded, remains capable of incredible resiliency despite humanity's voracious extractivism. In his subsequent works, The State of Water and The Forests of California, Obi continues his artistic and analytic investigation into deeper realms of ecology, art, and philosophy. When not backpacking the backcountry, you can find the poet/painter at his desk in Oakland.
