Please join us for our monthly meeting and to hear Archaeologist & Historian Stephen Hammock speak on the "Father of American Monumental Art in America" - Robert E. Launitz. The talk is free and open to the public.Launitz was an emigrant who set up shop in New York City and he became famous for his neo-classical gravestone monument designs, and was widely known for his influence on other sculptors. Mr. Hammock's talk will focus not just on his works in Georgia, but also in other states such as Kentucky & New York.
Stephen Hammock is from Macon, Georgia, and has been a professional archaeologist for more than 25 years. He serves as Executive Director of the Middle Georgia Preservation Alliance, concentrating on the history and archaeology of the Ocmulgee, Flint, and Oconee river basins. He is also the Principal Archaeologist and Secretary/Treasurer of the OAS, which he founded in 2003.
