Join us for the "Oaks of Remembrance" inaugural ceremony on Sunday September 7th.
Oaks of Remembrance is a unique living memorial of Garry Oak trees and original music to memorialize members of The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s).
The initiative will be unveiled at Royal Oak Burial Park Sunday September 7th 2025 to mark the 110th anniversary year of the Battle of Kitcheners’ Wood. Original music composed by local youth will be played to honour fallen soldiers, along with plaque unveiling, and live musical performances by the Pipes & Drums and Cpl (Ret'd) James Uu-Kwa-Qum Swan.
Oaks of Remembrance seeks to re-imagine and gently challenge traditional expectations of what commemoration and honouring our veterans can look and feel like. It aims to build connection & appreciation between communities by acknowledging the memory and legacy of CScotR through nature, music, and ongoing remembrance. One tree at a time, one composition at a time.
Ceremony Details:
- The ceremony will begin with a short procession (approx 150 meters) led by the Pipe Band, active CAF members, veterans, and members of the public. All attendees are encouraged to participate. Please be ready to step off no later than 1045 a.m.
- Similar to traditional remembrance ceremonies, limited seating will be provided at the ceremony site. This seating is reserved for VIP guests and members of the public who are unable to stand for the duration of the ceremony.
- Parking is available on the street, as well as on the grounds at Royal Oak Burial Park. Please be mindful of pedestrians, and do not park on the grass. Royal Oak Burial Park staff will be on site to advise and direct.
- Free copies of the new "CScotR Activity Book for Kids" available (while supplies last) for children attending the ceremony.
- A limited number of coil bound booklets detailing the first six commemorations in the Oaks of Remembrance program have been printed and will be handed out at the ceremony (while supplies last).
