About this Event

It’s tough to be a tree in Los Angeles. Join certified arborists Nick Araya and Julian Urbina of TreeCareLA to go behind-the-scenes on how oaks and our native trees are managed to keep them happy, healthy, and safe in the urban environment. See trees from the climber’s perspective 60 feet aloft and the arborist consultant’s role in helping folks understand their trees and what they need to survive and thrive.

Nick Araya has been climbing and caring for trees for over 20 years. He is the owner of TreeCareLA, a tree care company based in Los Angeles, which focuses on managing and retaining large and old trees. Nick is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and has the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. He trimmed his first tree in Chicago in 2001. It was here that he first saw what proper tree care looks like and how it makes for bigger, better trees and a beautiful, healthier city.

Julian Urbina joined TreeCareLA in 2019 and is now an experienced climber and ISA Certified Arborist. He fell in love with working outdoors when he joined the Arizona Conservation Corps and later the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps to support fire suppression efforts and invasive species management. Julian's an avid mountain biker and knows the San Gabriel Mountains like the back of his hand.
