Gulf Coast Campaign Living History Weekend
Event Dates: October 24–26, 2025
Location: Audubon State Historic Site, St. Francisville, Louisiana
---
Introduction
Timeframe: Mid-1775 to 1783
All participants must wear clothing and use gear accurate to the 1760–1783 period.
If you do not have a complete kit or need help assembling one, please reach out — we are happy to loan items to help you meet standards!
Note: This event will interpret the often-overlooked Gulf Coast Campaign of the American Revolution — when Spanish forces and their Native and colonial allies fought to drive British garrisons from the lower Mississippi Valley and Gulf settlements.
---
Event Scenario
Participants will recreate a skirmish inspired by clashes that occurred during Governor Bernardo de Gálvez’s campaigns along the lower Mississippi, from Manchac to Baton Rouge and Mobile. Spanish regulars, militia, and Native allies will engage British provincial troops, loyalist militia, and their native allies in a living history battle scenario.
All types of 18th-century impressions relevant to the Gulf Coast are encouraged.
Military: Take part in drill, tactical demonstrations, and the main skirmish portraying the struggle for control of Spanish Louisiana and British West Florida.
Women & Civilians: Demonstrate essential domestic skills such as open-hearth cooking, mending, sewing, food preservation, laundry, or interpret roles as camp followers, traders, or frontier families supporting the campaign.
Trades & Skills: All civilian trades are welcome — blacksmithing, leatherwork, trapping, tailoring, and period-specific crafts will enrich the encampment and educate the public.
Families & Children: Young reenactors are encouraged to take part in daily life demonstrations and help with camp chores and games typical of the period.
Evenings are open for informal fellowship around the campfire — share music, stories, and camaraderie under the oaks just as soldiers and settlers did in the 18th century.
If numbers permit, multiple tactical scenarios may be run, portraying Spanish forces and allies clashing with British defenders and loyalists.
