AdvertisementWe're looking forward to welcoming Oaken again on their second visit to Bristol, to teach and perform their repertoire of original arrangements and compositions, drawing on an eclectic mix of folk, world music, and pop influences.
Oaken is a quartet of professional singers and choir leaders comprising:
Anna Tabbush – leader of several community choirs, and esteemed choral composer and arranger.
Dominic Stichbury – a member of The Spooky Men’s Chorale, founder of Chaps Choir and one half of contemporary folk duo Ben & Dom.
Emily Barden - leader of West Sussex Sings and a published composer and singer/songwriter.
Camilo Menjura – originally from Columbia, Camilo is an award winning guitarist, vocalist, arranger and choir leader who runs LOL Choir - Landscapes of Latin America in London.
Anna Tabbush brought the group together during the UK’s 2020 Covid-19 lockdown to deliver online choral workshops, curating a varied and inspirational programme in a new innovative online format for participants. Since performing in front of live audiences they have quickly built a loyal following at their concerts and workshops with their warmth and joy of harmony singing.
Oaken’s sound and repertoire is drawn from the varied backgrounds of its members, which centres around a shared love of songs with story, heart & message. Singing a mixture of self penned compositions & arrangements, Oaken have curated an interesting repertoire that bridges folk traditions from the UK & latin America, as well as contemporary songs that highlight the expressive power of the quartet’s vocal style.
In workshops, Oaken team teach their unique repertoire; an approach which has made complex and sophisticated repertoire accessible and enjoyable for many community singers and is pivotal to Oaken’s style.
