About this Event
We welcome Jenny Bliss to Wells Cathedral in a wondrous programme of baroque and contemporary works for St Cecilias Day. Her new compositions 'Let there be light' and 'O Cecilia' performed by some of the cream of London's baroque scene including Joanna Lawrence (from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) and virtuoso flute and recorder player Daniel Swani. We will also hear music by the fantastic harpsichordist and keyboard player Ben Comaeu including some of his newly written pieces in microtonal scales, accompanied by the sensitive synth and electronics of William Kraemer. Also to be performed are stunning sonatas by Biber and improvisations on Purcells 'O Cecilia' in this celebration of music .
"Jenny Bliss seems to have invented an entirely new genre somewhere between Steve Reich, Bjork and Vivaldi with the ephemeral dark-whimsy of Elizabeth Fraser" Sarah Gillespie
"Imaginative playing..." Nigel Kennedy
