About this Event

EXPERIMENTAL ARCHITECTURE

RIBA CPD Topic-Design, Construction and Technology

This sixty-minute presentation begins with an exploration of what Experimental Architecture means, both to the architectural community and to Stage One. It then romps through several of our favourite Serpentine Pavilion projects and then ends with a pop quiz that presents the audience with some of our other projects and asks ‘But is it architecture?’

About the speaker

With a creative industries background, Tim Leigh joined Stage One as Sales & Marketing Director in 2013 and became Managing Director in 2019. After more than five years as MD he transitioned to the role of Chief Creative Officer and remains involved in the development of larger projects from concept to delivery.

He has been involved in the delivery of pavilions for the last twelve years and has worked on EXPO Pavilions and the Serpentine Series of Pavilions for more than a decade. His work is super creative and technically demanding in equal measure. He most enjoys seeing the creative presented as a concept sketch coming to life on site. The work he most enjoys is using materials in unconventional ways and using time and budget as design constraints.

Tim has an MBA from Durham University in addition to a BA and MSc degree qualifications. He was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in 2018.
