About this Event
Location:
Meet right outside the entrance to Little Island. From there, we will find a terrific vantage point to gather.
See map below.
Overview:
Explore Posca markers: a vibrant and versatile medium that has the look of gouache paint, the portability of markers, and elicits the joy of crayons. During this workshop, Shawne will show you what's possible with Poscas.
In this workshop, we’ll explore:
- What’s unique about this medium and how to use them to its (and our) best advantage
- Techniques like blending, layering, stipling, and hatching
- Ways to “pimp” your Poscas
- Building scenes drawing big shapes first, then adding details later
This workshop is designed for:
- Both novice and skilled sketchers who have a curiosity about learning new ways of working
- Those who’d like to achieve a balance of looseness and control
By the end of the workshop, you’ll:
- Know the ins and outs of this medium
- Learn how to build a scene starting with simple shapes and a limited palette
- Integrate line work on top of your base sketch
- Enjoy the scenic views all around
- Be able to embrace your perfectly imperfect style
Supply List:
- Sketchbook or loose paper, 5” x 7” or larger. Either way, smooth, thick paper is best.
- 6-12 Posca markers, including black and white; the rest to be colors of your choice. A range of nib sizes preferred; I personally am a fan of the Medium-sized bullet tip (PC-5M) and the larger Broad Bullet Tip (PC-7M) or Broad Chisel Tip (PC-8K). I also love the super-large chisel shaped PC-17K, to lay down a lot of color with a minimum of strokes.
- Handful of colored pencils that are similar in color to your Posca markers
- A few sheets of scrap paper
- Pencil
- Tissues or paper towel
- Optional: Neocolor II wax pastels or another favorite mark-making tool
