DETAILS:
Anna Rich is an accomplished artist, painter and illustrator who studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. She's had many years experience illustrating children's books with a number of publishers. Examples of her paintings can be found on Instagram @annarich
Anna will begin with a twenty to thirty minute demonstration on her process for starting a painting, providing students with her thought process as she proceeds.
Gouache is designed to be opaque. Gouache has a long history, having been used for at least twelve centuries. Anna had added to that long history by creating rich light filled works while urban sketching! Attendees will then take their materials and begin their own paintings . Anna will go around to each student offering advice and answering questions.
This unique venue has multiple choices for painting. You can go outside to the Rooftop, a two-acre park and walkway around the perimeter of Pier 57. The Rooftop offers incredible views of Hudson River Park, the New York City skyline and New York Harbor. Or, students may go to the enclosed Living Room, a 7,400 square foot public space with seats and tables, which offers spectacular views of Little Island and Lower Manhattan.
Recommended Supplies:
A set of gouache paints in primary colors. Winsor & Newton has a nice set of five pigments including Primary Red, Primary Yellow and Primary Blue, Black and White. Best brands include Winsor & Newton, Holbein, and Arteza.
