About this Event
Gavin Snider is an artist who lives and works in New York. He spends his days painting the city and the people in it.
In this workshop, Gavin will focus on the architecture of The Gapstow Bridge in Central Park. He'll show you how he builds up a watercolor from the blank page, "carving out" the painting with increasing levels of detail. He'll talk about composing with negative space, applying light and shadow, and approaching both architectural and landscape elements in a painting.
We will meeting at the north west side of the Gapstow Bridge, a short distance from the entrance to the Park at 5th Avenue and 61st Street. See the two maps below for where to meet. And what the bridge looks like from this point. From our meet-up point we will walk to the most advantageous spot to do our paintings. Restrooms are located in the Arsenal, at 5th Avenue and 64 th Street, near the Central Park Zoo.
The Workshop is scheduled for April 26th. We have a rain date of April 27th. As the day approaches, we will assess the weather and communicate via the email address you used to enroll.

Suggested Supply List (no need to have everything here, it's just Gavin's perfect wish list)
Strathmore donated watercolor paper for this workshop. But please bring your favorite if you want.
2 round watercolor brushes, one larger, one smaller. A fine tip is more important than size. He uses size 10-12 for washes and size 3-6 for detail.
Arches watercolor block, 140 lb Cold press, 11x14 in size, or fairly similar large, thick paper with a bit of texture. The block is nice because it doesn't need to be taped down.
2 water cups and a sketch board with holes to hold them.
Travel stool
Watercolor tubes. Again, the color matters less than the technique. Some options are listed below.
