About this Event
One at a time Watercolours. Fast and Loose
Sunday May 19, 2024, 10am we will meet at the Arch in Washington Square Park. See map below.
Erin Hill, our instructor, is visiting from Australia and has returned by popular demand. Travel Sketching has been Erin's particular passion for more than two decades. "Art has been my single focus since early childhood"
She'll be demonstrating each step as we go.
The Method:
- Erin begins with a thumbnail planning sketch. This helps to establish whether you want a landscape or portrait composition in your book. The main sketch is then done using a black permanent pen - no pencil required. Before we start with paint, we use the Chinagraph pencil to establish where we want white areas.
- Erin will demonstrate as she goes.
- She loads the brush with the first color and makes big strokes She starts with three colors and then adds five others as she goes. This will establish clear colors without any muddiness.
- Once done white Posca or Gel pen can be added to finish.
- Erin has 12 colors but tends to use just 10. (No browns or black)Each is laid out as a wash in the palette but not premixed, and ready to use. I will demo exactly how much water to paint ratio etc.
