About this Event
Hello, fellow fiber fanatics!
Spring is just around the corner, and what better way to welcome the season of new beginnings than with a delightful afternoon of crafting and camaraderie? Join us on Saturday, February 8th , 2024, at 2pm as we meet up at the modern marvel that is 120 Park Ave, a creative gem right at the heart of the city.
Nestled at the southwest corner of Park Avenue and East 42nd Street, just a stone's throw from the iconic Grand Central Terminal, this space is a true urban oasis. Picture a modern, glass- and granite-enclosed multistory wonderland, a collaborative project with the Whitney Museum of American Art. Since its completion in 1982, it has been a canvas for displaying sculptures from the museum's permanent collection, adding a touch of artistry to our crafting adventures.
But wait, there's more! This space is not just a feast for the eyes; it's a haven for our creative souls. It's the perfect spot to showcase your latest projects, see what your fellow crafters have been working on, catch up with old friends, or make some delightful new ones. It's like a crafting playdate in a modern art gallery!
Directions
Getting there couldn't be simpler. Just take 4, 5, 6 or 7 trains to Grand Central station and head over to 120 Park Ave, and you'll find us in this fantastic pedestrian space. Whether you're arriving by subway, bus, or on foot, you'll be joining our crafting party in no time.
So, pack up your needles, gather your yarn, and let's celebrate the upcoming arrival of spring with an afternoon of craft, creativity, and connections. Join us for an unforgettable day at 120 Park Ave, where art and knitting collide in the most marvelous way!
NYC Knitters is an Inclusive Group
Our group is all about inclusivity! We welcome people of all races, genders, sexualities, abilities, and backgrounds. We especially want to make sure that people of color, queer, and trans folks feel safe and comfortable in our group. So come hang out with us, bring your knitting or crochet, and let's have fun together. This group is for everyone.
Yarn Swap
Now, onto the grand finale – the Yarn Swap! We've all been there, right? That impulse yarn purchase that looked oh-so-appealing online but turned out to be a color catastrophe in person. Well, bring those lonely skeins that need a new home, and we'll set up a yarn buffet where you can swap and share to your heart's content. Your yarn might find its perfect match!
A note about meeting in public spaces
Our monthly knitting meetups are a fantastic chance to get together, share patterns, unwind with our favorite projects, and enjoy the beautiful public spaces New York City has to offer. We're so lucky to have these free spaces and we want to keep them clean and inviting for everyone. To that end, we ask that you keep a few things in mind when attending our meetups:
- Self-Service: Our meetups are all about community and self-reliance! There's no concierge service, so upon arrival, please find a chair and set up your own space. And before you leave, kindly put your chair back where you found it.
- Clean Up: Please be sure to pack away all your knitting supplies when you're done, including yarn scraps and any packaging. If your yarn is not picked up by others during yarn swap, please take it with you. We want to leave no trace of our crafting other than the warm memories and gorgeous creations!
- Respect the Space: Let's remember to use these public spaces in a way that doesn't disturb others. We're sharing the park and library with the rest of the community, so let's be mindful of noise levels and take care not to take up more space than necessary.
- Be a Good Neighbor: When we meet in the park, please dispose of any picnic waste in the proper receptacles.
- By following these simple steps, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy these spaces just as much as we do. And most importantly, we can continue to have our fantastic knitting meetups without a hitch!
Remember, a stitch in time saves nine, and a quick clean up saves us from losing our favorite knitting spots!
A special note for newbies: We pride ourselves on being a beginner-friendly group. If you're new to the world of knitting, crocheting, or any other fiber art, simply let us know ahead of time. Some of our seasoned stitchers are more than willing to share their wisdom and help you get started. We just need a heads-up so we can come prepared to teach you the basics.
See you there, where the only thing more colorful than the yarn will be the friendships we create! 🧶🎨🏙️
