NHS pain consultant, Dr Deepak Ravindran is an author, physician & researcher with over 20 years of experience in helping people overcome their pain. Currently heading up one of the UK's largest pain services he is on a mission to dispel the myths of pain treatment and adopt a more holistic approach. In this Science Session, Dr Ravindran will delve into the critical role the gut microbiome plays in chronic pain through its influence on the immune system, inflammation, and the brain-gut axi. He will offer practical ideas we can all use in the clinic to help us help our patients take back control of their pain and their recovery.

Dr Deepak Ravindran
Dr Deepak Ravindran has over 20 years of experience in helping people overcome their pain – in the NHS and private practice. He is one of the few consultants in the UK who possesses triple certification in lifestyle medicine, musculoskeletal medicine and pain medicine. He has been a consultant in pain medicine since 2010 in one of the biggest district general medical hospitals, the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. He is currently the clinical lead for the specialist pain services for all of West Berkshire since 2015.
Dr Deepak Ravindran is part of the award-winning Integrated Pain and Spinal Service (IPASS) service in 2016 and also the Multidisciplinary Circle Fibromyalgia Clinic. In 2020, he helped set up the Berkshire Longcovid Integrated service, one of 90 such clinics in the UK to look after Longcovid patients.
Dr Deepak Ravindran is on a mission to interrogate the myths and flesh out the theories of pain management. He is physician researcher with the University of Reading, working with a number of departments and sharing knowledge with our next generation of passionate academics.
Understanding that the science of pain management is complex – but doable, Dr Deepak Ravindran is a pioneer in the making. To rewire the brain and adopt a more holistic way of controlling pain and in some cases become pain-free, Dr Deepak Ravindran is a self-confessed ‘upstreamist’ with big plans!
