About this Event

Who is it for?

  • This group is aimed at caregivers who may have recently found out that their child is Autistic.
  • It may also be helpful for caregivers who are new to the therapy journey, feeling unhappy with your therapy journey so far, want to learn more about neurodiversity, or would like to connect with other caregivers.
  • This group is for primary caregivers (like parents), but it is also for anyone else who may be helping care for your Autistic child, or who is a source of support for your child. Extended family members, grandparents, friends, support workers, foster carers, neighbours, teachers, or anyone else you think would benefit from understanding Autism more is welcome. The more that your support system understands Autism, the more understood your child may feel.
  • With each ticket, up to 2 people supporting the same child can attend.
  • 3 to 10 families will be in each group (up to 20 people).
  • The content of the course will best suit those with Autistic children under 13 years of age.

What is involved?

  • Attendance at 5 in person workshop sessions with other caregivers.
  • You can choose to attend individual workshops or the whole program. It is recommended that you attend as many sessions as you can as the content flows through each week.
  • If you wish to attend a single workshop the price of the whole program will be split to account for the cost of the workshop(s) you attend.

Why should you attend?

  • Unlike individual therapy sessions for your child, a caregiver-only training group focuses on empowering you! When you invest in your own growth and knowledge as a caregiver, you are ensuring that your child is in a neurodiversity nurturing environment now and in the future.
  • Participating in the sessions will also help you develop the knowledge to access appropriate and safe supports for your child, and become a more confident advocate for your child's needs.
  • It is great “value for money”.

When:

  • Each session is 2 hours in length.
  • Sessions run from 10am to 12pm.
  • There is a 10 minute break at about 11am each session.
  • The Elixir cafe is next door for those needing a caffeine or snack in the break, or before or after the session.
  • Sessions are completed every week for 5 weeks.
  • Current dates are on Tuesday mornings on the 11th Feb, 18th Feb, 25th Feb, 4th March and 11th March 2025.

Where:

  • Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre - Ground Floor Meeting room at 3 Rocca Way, Wanneroo WA 6065.
