Nursing Professional Development Certification Preparation Course
Program Description
This program is intended to prepare participants for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) specialty examination in nursing professional development (NPD) by increasing the participant’s foundational nursing professional development knowledge.
- Short term measurement: Upon course completion, 80% of participants will report an increase in their knowledge of the content found on the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) specialty examination in nursing professional development.
- Long term measurement: Completed follow up survey results will indicate that 85% of surveyed participants who took the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) specialty exam in nursing professional development will report successful certification was achieved.
Pre- and Post-Course Practice Exam Information
Registrants will be enrolled in the NPD Cert Prep Course Pre- and Post-practice exams in ANPD’s Professional Development Center. Participants may assess knowledge gained by comparing their post-course score with their pre-course score. Practice exam scores are provided immediately on completion of each 60-question test. In addition, the practice exams allow identification of domains as areas of focus when preparing for the certification exam. Instructions to access the Pre- and Post-practice exams will be provided to attendees two (2) weeks before the course.
Course Topics
This hands-on, multi-day course is intended to increase your understanding of nursing professional development and help you prepare for the NPD certification exam offered by ANCC. The curriculum covers the major domains of practice found in the board certification exam:
- Program/Project Management and Process Improvement
- Educational Process Standards
- Leadership
- Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Standards
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Technology
Earn 16 Contact Hours
Association for Nursing Professional Development is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.ANPD is responsible for adherence to ANCC criteria for this course.
Course Completion
Attendance of the entire course is required for awarding 16 contact hours. Partial credit may be awarded for attendance of a full single day (8 hours for in-person courses). Completion of the online course evaluation is required.

- NPD practitioners preparing for the specialty certification exam in Nursing Professional Development offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
- RNs desiring additional education in nursing professional development
Registration and Fees
- Stanford Medicine Children's Health RNs: $400 (plus administrative fees)
- General Admission: $450 (plus administrative fees)
Stanford Medicine Children's Health Employees: For employment verification, please register using your stanfordchildrens.org work email and SCH employee ID number.
Please be advised that the Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through AccessHR. Cancellation and Refund
- FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to course date.
- PARTIAL REFUND for cancellations less than 2 weeks prior to course date. A $35 cancellation fee will be deducted from the total amount you have paid.
- NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to course date.
- For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.
- Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
