In 1734, Angélique, an enslaved Black woman, lit Old Montréal on fire. She was tortured, hung and set aflame. After which the white French Catholic authorities scattered her ashes in the four winds-- so her soul could never reach Heaven.
Now Angélique is back, haunting us on these unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm Nations full of flammable Black Diasporic resistance realness. Angélique will leave you in wonder by bringing past into present, present into future as we push back against the deception of "the great white north". She reclaims her ashes (and her time!), and invites you the audience to rectify her betrayal through unabashed celebration.
