Learning numbers through fun activities:
This is the first 5 week block of little thinkers which focuses on numbers 1-5. In this block we will learn about numbers in three exciting ways! We will count, recognise numbers, and form numbers using fun games and activities. Our sessions are designed by a teacher and are inline with the national curriculum. Each week will focus on a specific number and by the end of the 5 weeks we will have explored numbers 1,2,3,4&5.
The learning intentions for these classes are:
•Saying and recognising numbers 1-5.
•1:1 correspondence.
•Number formation.
Our first activity is reading and singing to encourage counting:
We will practice counting, read stories that have numbers in them and sing songs. For example, "Five Little Ducks" is a fun song where we can count the ducks as we sing. Counting while singing helps us remember the numbers better. Please join in and encourage your child to sing along with us.
The next activity is movement games to encourage number recognition:
Next, we will play movement games to recognize numbers. We can play a game called ‘Hop’ . In this game, we will place number cards on the floor. When the teacher says a number, we will hop to that number! This helps us see and remember the numbers as we move around. Moving our bodies while learning makes the numbers stick in our brains.
Our third activity is purposeful play which encourages number formation:
Finally, we will learn how to make numbers through purposeful play. We can use different materials to shape our numbers. Let's make a big "3" or a "5" with our hands! We can also use sand or water to form numbers. This kind of play is messy but very fun! Remember to wear something old, just in case we get a little messy
Why Active Engagement and Play Matter?
Children learn better when they are active and engaged. When we move, sing, and play, our brains are excited and ready to learn! Active learning helps us remember things longer. It also makes learning fun, and we get to play with our friends!
