The origin of the word Nuba comes from Nub (Nubu) meaning gold in hieroglyphics and also derived from the ancient tribal leader named Nubati. Ancient Nubians shared in many celebrations and special rituals such as marriage ceremonies, hunting celebrations, and many other occasions incorporating dance. Nubians are made up of many different villages of people with their own unique languages, such as Fadiga and Kenzi. Nuba has many different dances and each of them has a unique purpose and name, such as the Arajid dance, Balajeh dance, El kaf dance and many others. Nuba dances are mostly group dances where dancers do the same movements together.
