About this Event
This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, promoting, and teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course. It is presented in two parts: basic instructor training and discipline specific instructor training. Students learn and demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide and an NRA Basics Of Pistol Shooting Instructor Candidate Packet.
Prerequisites: Instructor candidates must possess and demonstrate a solid background in firearm safety and shooting skills acquired through previous firearm training and/or previous shooting experience. Prior to the course, candidates complete a pre-course questionnaire and demonstrate their firearm background in pre-course assessment exercises.
Instructor candidates must be able to prove they've completed the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course. Citizens Safety Academy will be conducting the NRA Basic Pistol Course the day before this course starts.
Equipment List:
- A reliable handgun (semi-auto or revolver, 9mm or larger preferred, but any caliber accepted)
- Roughly 100 rounds of ammunition (ammo usage will depend on how many times we need to shoot the 20-round qualification course, so 100 rounds is a generous estimation).
- Eye and ear protection
- Proper attire, applicable medications, bug spray, snack/water, and other items to stay comfortable in the elements while on the outdoor range
- Note-taking materials for the classroom
- Your NRA number (if you're a member - though membership is not required)
- An open mind
- A positive attitude
We'll send an email to all students within a week of class with more details on what to bring and what to expect.
