About this Event

Panel Discussion

with Lisa Trever, Jerónimo Duarte Riascos, and María José Contreras

The Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures (LAIC) at Columbia University presents a special conversation with Noé Martínez Flores (@radioimaginario), a multidisciplinary Mexican artist and member of Colectivo RojoNegro, who will represent Mexico at the 2026 Venice Biennale.

In dialogue with Columbia professors Lisa Trever, Jerónimo Duarte Riascos, and María José Contreras, Martínez will discuss the intersections of performance, Indigenous epistemologies, and decolonial aesthetics within his practice.

The experience culminates in a collective presentation titled Viento real, viento aparente – Cempohualli, a performative reading in Nahuatl and Spanish, conceived as an offering of words at Columbia’s Alma Mater Plaza.

This event invites scholars, artists, and students to reflect on how contemporary performance can reclaim and reimagine ancestral knowledge within global art histories.

[Attention: this event will be held in Spanish with Q&A in Spanish/English]

Performance Workshop: La historia de los caminos

Friday, November 14 · By Selection Only [ ]
Open to all Columbia and Barnard Students

Led by Noé Martínez Flores, this body-based workshop invites participants to explore the archival power of the body and its potential to recover ancestral experience. Participants will be invited to share and reflect on their own personal projects as part of the workshop.

Through sound, breath, and movement, Martínez guides students in an embodied journey of collective reflection. The workshop incorporates original sound compositions by Alberto Rubí, created for La historia de los caminos, which examines Indigenous enslavement in colonial Mexico and the endurance of memory through performance.
