Aleah Johnson grew up in Witset and sits with the Laksilyu (Small Frog) clan. She was raised in a family where gardening, harvesting of foods (from gardens and the territories) was a norm, and has been on a journey of learning about preserving foods since she was a child. Aleah is currently a teacher and is always finding ways to share her knowledge with her students and community. These past 5 years she has spent a large amount of time experimenting with her freeze dryer and finding ways to make modern and traditional foods shelf stable for up to 25 years. Her goal is to share her knowledge in ways that allow schools and communities to be more self-sufficient in the North.
