We are so excited to bring Italy's Piemonte classic wines and dishes to the Quad Cities - not to mention a 20 year old single vineyard Barolo for you to savor...While visiting the iconic striped buildings of Fontanafredda in the Langhe region, it became clear that we just don't normally see the elegant power of these wines - and we were going to have to find a way to fix that. Fontanafredda was a perfect choice for this challenge - after all, they began bottling wine in 1858, and were the first folks to bottle a wine called "Barolo" - the wine now known around the world as the "king" of Italian reds.
To really help us all understand the power and depth of these wines we are presenting with our main course two glasses side by side of single vineyard Barolo - from both the 2019 and 2004 vintages! How best to experience the long lasting power and elegance of these wines the rest of the wine world raves about.
Of course, its not just incredible Barolos in your glass. Get ready to encounter the quality and variety of Piemonte, with exciting Timarasso, Alta Langa sparkling (what? you've never had Timarasso or Alta Langa before?), a deliciously refreshing Gavi di Gavi, and a regional Barbera that will show you what Barbera is really all about. All but one of these Fontanafredda wines will be completely new to Iowa, being brought in specifically for this event.
And not to be out done - rolling out of our kitchen will come some truly regional Piemontese specialty dishes, also not available on your QC menus.
I will be so pleased to be working with Dwight Becker of Plam Bay importers, to introduce these amazing flavors.
