🍷 November General Meeting – Martinje Celebration 🍷
In Croatia, Martinje (Must Christening) marks the completion of the wine-growing season and is celebrated with plenty of wine, food, and laughter.
The “Must Christening” is a humorous and theatrical parody ceremony featuring the Wine Bishop, altar assistants, a nun, musicians, and a chosen godmother, all playfully blessing the new wine.
We will have the pleasure of watching this traditional performance live at our next General Meeting, presented by The Cultural Association of Prepuštovec (KUD Prepuštovec).
Throughout the Zagreb foothills, this charming custom has been celebrated for centuries. In fact, it originates from Prepuštovec, one of the oldest settlements mentioned in church records as early as 1217.
Come and enjoy this wonderful, festive Croatian tradition that is not to be missed!
