The next meeting of the Central Pennsylvania Observers is on Thursday November 7th. The main event for the meeting is a talk by club member Bill Arden on "What’s Up with the Sun?: The Current Solar Maximum, Plus Our Experiences & Photos of Auroras and Sunspots & Flares." We hope that you will join us!The sun has been wildly active lately, with lots of sunspots and flares, coronal mass ejections, and auroras. What’s going on? Bill Arden, our club’s resident expert on all things solar, is going to help us understand what’s up with the sun this year, how it fits into the solar cycle, and that the current solar maximum came as somewhat of a surprise.
After Bill’s talk we will share our own experiences observing these solar phenomena. There should be lots to share because so many of us have seen them lately, between the sunspots and solar flares during the April solar eclipse and the aurora that reached Pennsylvania last week and earlier this year. Your solar-related photos and stories from earlier years would be great to have too.
Please send your photos of sunspots, flares, and aurora in advance to Wayne Osgood ([email protected]) or upload them here.
BTW: We’ll be sharing comet photos at our December meeting, so be working on those too!
Pizza at 7:00!
