Hold onto your smokers! This month’s meeting will be an adventurous dive into the wild side of Varroa management, exploring all approaches, including some that skirt the line of what's commonly accepted—and even what's fully legal. No, we’re not endorsing these practices, but we will be looking closely at what the law says, alongside the more controversial, odd and illegal methods that exist. Allen Engle will be guiding us through what some might call the more… creative techniques for dealing with mites.Possible Tangents:
Powdered Sugar Dusting - Is dusting your bees with powdered sugar an effective way to make varroa lose their grip?
Oxalic Acid Towel Method & Wood Bleach
Juniper Tree Shavings - If you've never heard of this one, you’re not alone. Is it a botanical breakthrough or a quirky folk remedy?
Essential Oils - Are they making minty-fresh mites?
Your thoughts are welcome and encouraged. We'd love to spark a discussion on the merits and perils of lesser discussed treatments.
Membership is not required for our in-person meetings or Beginner's Corner; all are welcome.
The event will begin at 6:00 PM, but if you have beekeeping questions or you’re new to beekeeping, join us at 5:00 PM for our Beginner’s Corner.
