About this Event

2-Part Pottery Pipe-Making Workshop (18+ ONLY EVENT)

Welcome to this two-part workshop, where you'll create two unique pottery pipes from start to finish! You'll shape and construct your pipes during the first session on Saturday, 7th December, 2024 and return to decorate and glaze them on Saturday, 4th January, 2025.

Day 1: Pipe Making (Saturday, 7th December, 2024)

Introduction & Inspiration: We’ll start with a look at various pottery pipe examples, discussing design elements and functionality to inspire your creations.
Design & Sketch: Sketch the designs for your two pipes, planning both aesthetics and function.
Hand-Building Techniques: Learn essential hand-building techniques to construct your pipes, with step-by-step guidance for creating bowls, stems, and joining pieces.
Break: A short 20-minute break—feel free to bring snacks or drinks, as refreshments are limited near the John Marley Centre.
Refinement: After construction, we’ll refine and smooth each pipe, ensuring they're well-finished.

Day 2: Decorating & Glazing (Saturday, 4th January, 2025)

Design Planning: Your bisque-fired pieces will be ready for you to decorate. Begin with sketching any decorative designs you want to apply.
Underglaze Application: Use provided underglazes to bring your designs to life on each pipe.
Final Firing: Your decorated pipes will be fired and ready for collection in 3–4 weeks, creating a beautiful, custom finish.

This workshop is a fantastic opportunity to learn hand-building and glazing techniques, create functional art, and walk away with two decorative pottery pipes. We can’t wait to see what you create!
