Nov 9, 10 AM ~ Fan Murals Hike

We will begin today's 4.5 mile hike at the intersection of Laurel and Albemarle Streets on Oregon Hill. We will loop through part of Oregon Hill then cross the expressway and head west on West main Street almost to Arthur Ashe Blvd. Then we'll reverse course and make our way back through the Fan until we again cross the expressway on Randolph St, returning to the start location via Idlewood Ave. It's not a hard hike by JRH standards but you will be challenged by a rapid succession of Murals in a relatively compact area so pay attention.
Murals are found adorning what would otherwise be undecorated building walls in some unusual places. You'll soon realize that the artists can turn the most unlikely locations into amazing art works. The diversity the murals' subject matter, the use of color and the scale of the renderings will mystify and amaze you. Starting with "Kaiya with Crown" to "Purple Entanglement" the talent and diversity of subjects on display around Richmond will leave you wondering, "What next?" Only one way to find out...

Click here for more information on the murals as well as their locations. (https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?ll=37.54302592978563%2C-77.45791139999999&z=13&mid=1_7S6xMRxn6t4v6xm7gbB7qk_GJDAsH3e)

There is no requirement to possess ability to negotiate tree roots, rustic trails, low hanging vines and branches, toxic plants, culverts, reptiles, damp trail conditions, stairs, spider webs, fallen trees, scorpions, birds of prey, migratory waterfowl, and river rocks today as this hike will be entirely on paved streets and sidewalks. Having said that, you are encouraged to remain viligant for the stray brick toe-stubber and the cattywampus (it's a real word - look it up) granite curbings.
We start this hike in a residential district. Curbside parking, when available, is the only option. Allow yourself time for a short walk from your car to the rendezvous location if necessary.

What to bring: Water bottle, clothing appropriate for the season, *practical footwear, insect repellent, a snack, aspirin, dry clothes, & band aids,
