About this Event

The St. Andrew the Apostle Concert Series welcomes the father-son organ/violin duo of Charles Tompkins and Gregory Tompkins in a free concert on Sunday, November 24, at 4 PM in Clifton, Virginia.

About the Artists

Dr. Charles Tompkins is the Professor of Music and University Organist at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Recognized as one of America’s most unparalleled organ teachers and concert organists, Tompkins is a graduate of the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. He performs each year at universities and major churches across the United States and has played recitals at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Kennedy Center, the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC, and the Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston. An active church musician throughout his career, Tompkins has been the organist of Greenville's historic First Baptist Church since 1997.

Gregory Tompkins holds a B.M. in violin performance from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music and recently received his Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory. He has participated in a variety of summer festivals across the United States, including the Music Academy of the West, Spoleto Festival USA, the Castleman Quartet Program, and the National Repertory Orchestra. Gregory concertizes regularly in solo and chamber recitals across the eastern United States and has performed as a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Concert Details

The concert will feature two organ pieces by J.S. Bach – the Prelude and Fugue in G major and Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, as well as organ and violin works by Josef Rheinberger, Cécile Chaminade, Naji Hakim, Jehan Alain, Florence Price and more. After the concert, stay for a complimentary post-concert reception with light refreshments where you can mingle with friends and meet the artists.
