About this Event
The Nourishment Circles, a three-part community program for survivors of gender-based violence, those who support survivors, and community members who have experienced food insecurity. Created by, for, and with survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), this program recognizes that access to food is not only a basic need—but also a powerful pathway to recovery, connection, and transformation.
Each session combines hands-on cooking, shared meals, and collective reflection in a trauma-informed, culturally grounded space. Together, participants will:
🍲 Learn to prepare affordable, nourishing dishes alongside guest chefs whose recipes reflect their cultural heritage.
💬 Share a communal meal while fostering trust, storytelling, and community care.
🌱 Participate in “dreaming” circles to reimagine what a just and accessible food system could look like in Ottawa.
November 20 | Oven Roast Kissed Chicken Leg
- Pan seared and oven roasted chicken leg seasoned with bold African & house spices, served with herb roasted potatoes and a medley of sweet bell peppers.
December 4 | Braised Lamb Shank with Curry Veggie Rice and Chickpeas
- Slow-braised lamb shank simmered until tender in a rich, spiced sauce. Served with sautéed curry vegetable rice and hearty chickpeas.
Every participant will receive a $40 grocery gift card per session to support continued access to nourishment at home.
By blending practical skill-building with collective visioning, the Nourishment Circle honours the food wisdom that survivors carry and channels it into a survivor-led vision for food security and systemic change.
