About this Event
When we talk about Parkinson’s and what physically occurs in the brain, the conversation often focuses on the decreased production of the neurotransmitter Dopamine. Dopamine is what transmits messages telling us to move. There is another neurotransmitter though called Adenosine that acts like the brakes to halt movement. Over time, there is less and less Dopamine available in the brain – even when you replace it by taking Levodopa/Carbidopa. This means Adenosine has a greater influence, acting like a “brake” on your movement. This diminished movement is often referred to as an “off episode.”
Join us in-person at our Beaverton office or online for a discussion with Sherrie Gould, MSN, NP-C. Sherrie will explain in more detail these “off episodes” and how to manage them.
This may include the use of Nourianz, in conjunction with Levodopa/Carbidopa. Nourianz is a Medic*tion that is thought to help increase your “on time” by targeting the Adenosine receptors in your brain. It helps “lift the brakes” allowing you to have increased movement.
About Our Speaker
Sherrie currently works as a specialty nurse practitioner at the Scripps Clinic Center for Neurorestoration in La Jolla, CA where she follows patients with a number of movement disorders including Parkinson’s Disease, essential tremor and dystonia.
She has learned and perfected the art and science of deep brain stimulation programming and provides education nationally to both patients and clinicians about Deep Brain Stimulation.
Sherrie is also the sub primary investigator in pluripotent stem cell research for Parkinson’s that is presently taking place at Scripps Clinic Medical Group where she is employed.
Additionally, Sherrie is a professional speaker for Parkinson’s education and has had the opportunity to serve on several Parkinson’s advisory boards across the county.
This is an independent event, unaffiliated with Parkinson's Resources and is not an endorsement or recommendation by PRO of a specific therapy or treatment modality. Kyowa Kirin is the maker of Nourianz, and a proud partner of Parkinson's Resources of Oregon. This program is offered as a paid consideration.
