About this Event
A work in progress from the creator of Watson Fothergill Walk.
The Art Deco Society UK have asked me to design and deliver a tour of Nottingham. Come along to help me finalise the route and on the way you will discover fascinating facts about Nottingham's architecture of the 1920s and 1930s, the changes that the city went through during the era, the evolution of shopping and socialising, and maybe even see some beautiful details that you've never noticed before.
We will be looking at the work of local architects including T. Cecil Howitt, H. Alderman Dickman, Alfred J. Thraves and others. Investigating why there were quite so many branches of Montague Burton - The Tailor of Taste on Nottingham's shopping streets. Searching for the remains of the Art Deco era to see what impact it had on the city's buildings. There will be glimpses of Egyptian hanging gardens, Streamline Moderne flourishes, as well as modern concrete and glass.
This is a walk of approximately 3km (1.86 miles) which aims to be 2 hours in length (this timing is provisional). Please wear footwear suitable for city walking and be appropriately prepared for all weather eventualities.
The walk will start at 6 pm sharp outside Visit Nottingham Tourism Centre, 1 Smithy Row and aims to finish at The Lord Roberts on Broad Street - where you are welcome to stay for a drink and give feedback on the tour.
This walk is ticketed but is a priced as "donation" Suggested ticket price £10 per head. Due to Eventbrite structure tickets must be purchased one at a time. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions or queries.
