decha is multidisciplinary artist Viktoria Wehrmeister. She was part of Klaus Dinger's la! NEU? and founder of Toresch with Tolouse Low Trax (on Offen Music). Now based in Düsseldorf, she was born in Mexico City, but only lived there for 7 years. Later her childhood language Spanish came back in her performances, complementing forgotten parts according to feeling, and mingling it with invented language. Her poetic lyrics often contain self-reflection about life as a woman, a mother, a teacher, an artist, while she modulates her voice playfully in shades from light to dark, transgressing a clear gendered identity. Hiele boca (2019) is a superb solo debut suite of minimalist, mirage-like songs for Berlin's Malka Tuti label. On her second album, La vida te busca (2021), flitting back and forth between German and Spanish, Decha creates a vividly angular, post-industrial sprawl.
germ lattice
The trio met in London during the 2000's but it wasn't until they had relocated to Norwich in recent years, that they rented a studio in a condemned brutalist shopping centre and the Germ Lattice sound was formed. They began by agreeing what they didn't want the project to be: no improvising or jamming, no overdubs, keep the tracks short etc.. Gipping Through the Ages presents the band's structured, repetitive & linear tracks built around drums, bass, and synth with deliberately abstract vocals. Their novel use of microphones and live tape processing add a dynamism to the music where elements mask each other or the overdriven meters suggest the whole thing is on the brink of collapse. Dirt-caked, tape-damaged outsider jams at their filthiest, their debut is a flagrant deconstruction of post-punk, unravelling screwed basslines, chants and ritualistic beats with time dilating, on-the-fly concrète processes and canny studio techniques.
carrageenan
carrageenan is Brussels based midnight lurker Matthieu Levet's solo project. He's a hardened live performer, boss of the Cold Moss label and in diverse bands like Carcass Identity, Pizza Noise Mafia and Orphids. His live performance often turns a venue into a black hole where analog percussion, heavy distorted bass, dub techniques and raw minimalism meet, bubbling, scraping, drowning the audience in a splurge of electronic tonal and atonal dribble. Raw and unapologetic, Carrageenan's hardware jams serve as a meditation on the absurd nature of the world we live in. Minimal, repetitive and hypnotic arrangements become a ritualistic experience, motioning ever deeper, creating a disorienting and surreal experience, always looking for that unusual or unorthodox twist. Let's Go There on Cold Moss was his debut, then came Invisible Design on Czaszka Records and Distorted Realities on Jollies. And now he unleaches Dry Signal, a profound and disquieting album, on Nose Job.
