Ottawa Reformed Church of West Olive, Michigan, will host a concert by the Northwestern College A cappella Choir on Thursday, March 5, at 7 PM. The concert is free and open to the public.The choir’s program, titled “Amazing Grace,” will feature sacred settings such as Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium” and Michael Barrett’s “Indodana” and “Absalom, My Son.” Other highlights include Erik Jones’ lively and humorous “Tell My Ma,” and Sarah Hopkins’ overtone-rich work “Past Life Melodies.” The choir will also perform the Taiwanese piece “The Apple of Daddy’s Eye” for choir, piano, and alto saxophone. Together, the program traces a musical journey from celebration and lament to hope, grace, and praise.
The A cappella Choir’s tour, Feb. 28–March 8, will include concerts at five high schools and eight churches across Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota.
The 46-member ensemble is directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, professor of music, and accompanied by Janelle Phinney. The choir has toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally.
