The Northwest Symphony Orchestra (NSO) will open its 2024-2025 season at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 South Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Join the NSO and Music Director Tim Semanik for an afternoon of dramatic music as it presents Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 “Prague Symphony”, and Tchaikovsky’s tragic and triumphant Symphony No. 5.
Mozart was all the rage in Prague when he traveled there in late 1786. He brought with him a new symphony for which audiences were immediately enthralled. The three-movement work omits the minuet, which seems to give the work more weight and allows Mozart to more fully mine his genius and dramatic flair.
Despite the negative reaction of some critics at its premiere, Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony has been one of the most popular orchestral works since its inception. From its ominous clarinet opening to its triumphal conclusion, the symphony is filled with all the passion, intensity and beauty for which Tchaikovsky is so well known.
These memorable and complex symphonies, composed by some of the best composers of all time, are fitting to celebrate the life of the NSO’s acclaimed 19-year music director and conductor, Paul Vermel.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors age 65 or older, and $10 for students with ID. Children under the age of 14 are admitted free of charge if attending with an adult who has purchased a ticket.
