THE NORTHWEST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS SHOSTAKOVICH AND FRANCK, WITH YOUNG ARTIST SOLOIST ON SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2025
The Northwest Symphony Orchestra (NSO) will host its third concert of the 2024-2025 season at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 South Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Join the NSO and Music Director Tim Semanik for an afternoon of emotionally intense and deeply expressive music as it presents Dmitri Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor.
Also, attendees of this concert will be smitten by the beautiful violin performance of Tinson Xu in the Violin Concerto.
Mr. Xu is the 2024 Paul Vermel Young Artist Award Winner, being selected for this special award to recognize craftsmanship and musical ability within the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The Shostakovich concerto’s four movements, entitled Nocturne, Scherzo, Passacaglia, and Burlesque, take the listener through many different states of mind, with its eerie melodies and resonating themes and make a strong backdrop for the expressive violin solo throughout the piece.
Similarly, the Franck Symphony in D minor is characterized by the dreamy and mesmerizing melody of the English horn, with movements later showing great energy and excitement.
Franck delicately weaves his recognizable melody from start to finish of this symphony that leaves the listener with appetence and contemplation.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors age 65 or older, and $10 for students with ID. Children under the age of 14 are admitted free of charge if attending with an adult who has purchased a ticket. Patrons may purchase tickets at the door on the day of the concert, or in advance at the NSO website, www.northwestsymphony.org, or by phone at the orchestra’s information number: 847-965-7271.
