The mission of the Northwest Cup is to create an exhibition style competition which showcases the best pool players from the states of Oregon and Washington. A successful Northwest Cup will provide a fun, spectator friendly atmosphere for the patrons, and an intense, pressure-packed experience for the participants. This shall be accomplished with the utmost respect and sportsmanship, with an eye towards elevating the status of the game of pool in the Northwest and around the world.
General description:
The Northwest Cup is an annual competition between teams of players from the states of Oregon and Washington. It is a “Mosconi Cup Style” competition in which the participants play matches of both singles and scotch doubles in the game of 9 ball. It is a 2-day contest which usially takes place on a Saturday and Sunday in the month of November.
2022 team selection guidelines:
For 2022 the captains for Team Oregon and Team Washington are Michael Deitchman and Ed Slade, respectively. The team members shall be selected by the captains based on the following criteria:
Each team shall consist of 5 members, whose total Fargo rating shall not exceed 3300 as of September 1, 2022.
Each team shall have as a member at least one woman.
Any team member shall not play for 3 consecitive years, starting with the 2021 competition.
Each team member shall be a permanent resident of the state of the team they represent.
Women candidates shall have an established Fargo rating of 500 or higher.
Men candidates shall have an established Fargo rating of 600 or higher.
Captains are not allowed to play for their team.
All player candidates shall have demonstrated a track record of behavior and attitude that is consistent with the mission statement of the Northwest Cup. Disqualification from candidacy based on this criteria may be made at the sole discretion of The Northwest Cup.
