This is a unique opportunity to learn with acclaimed permaculture trainer and community facilitator Robina McCurdy, sharing the culmination of thirty years of her work on local and bioregional food resilience. Robina’s comprehensive approach begins in community organisations and neighbourhood backyards, connecting to regeneration of local food economies and positive policy changes at the governance level.

WORKSHOP 1 ‘Community Food Propagators -supporting grassroots food resilience

Target audience: Grassroots& backyard growers, hobby farmers, small scale CSA/market gardeners, seed savers, community gardeners, school garden co-ordinators/educators, permaculture practitioners & educators, food processors, food traders & distributors, organisations engaged in supporting community-led local food security
About the workshop: The aim of this workshop is to regenerate a resilient local food culture whilst growing the local food economy. Using an interactive ground model of our region, we will develop a comprehensive bioregional food inventory, to use as a resource base to enable local food security. We will develop bioregional seasonal calendars for diversified food growing, wild harvest and celebratory food culture. We will work on strategic planning for ensuring our seed security, which typically leads to the expansion of seed networks and the creation of multiple smaller plant material nurseries. We will look at how to meet the gaps in local production and consumption through micro-enterprises including household food trading commodities, community food processing facilities, collective marketing, local identity trademarking and working with and around restrictive regulations.
A second workshop is held on Friday 12th of September to dive deeper into the conditions for regional food systems transformation
