Host: Peter Pilarski
Info: From simple AI assistants to a new generation of intelligent AI agents, the tourism industry continues to adapt to the evolving AI landscape. Unlike basic AI assistants, AI agents can take on complex tasks, anticipate needs, and make independent decisions, fundamentally changing how tourism businesses operate and interact with guests. This keynote will simplify this powerful shift, providing a clear roadmap for harnessing the power of current AI chatbots and emerging AI agents, to secure a competitive advantage in the new era of tourism. The goal is to move beyond βwhat is AIβ to βhow do we deploy a systems thinking approach to achieve new business outcomes.β

Fueling Local Economies, Strengthening Community Pride & Creating Prosperity
Host: Gracen Chungath
Info: In 2024, tourism generated $130 billion in revenueβsupporting 1 in 10 jobs nationwide and sustaining over 265,000 businesses in more than 5,000 communities. It is also Canadaβs second-largest service export, bringing in over $31 billion from international visitors.
In this session, delegates will learn how Destination Canadaβs Destination Development initiative supports communities by providing thought leadership, practical tools, and research to guide planning, while also enabling strategic investments that expand tourism capacity and meet evolving traveller expectations.
Learn about the Tourism Destination Development Toolkits, co-created with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, which provide practical guidance tailored to rural, remote, and northern communities. These resources equip communities with checklists, case studies, and investment-readiness tools to unlock tourism opportunities, with a focus on Indigenous tourism, youth careers, and regenerative models.

This session will begin with an overview of the guidebook, followed by a panel discussion with community representatives who will share how they use outdoor recreation to attract visitors, support local businesses, and build more resilient, year-round tourism economies.
